Good help is so hard to find...or is it!

Don't forget to use that Donate Button in the side bar. Financially Digital is supporting some great non-profits in the Greater Springfield Mass area and would love if our digital community supported them too. Every little bit helps!!

A few days ago I had the pleasure of having coffee with a truly compassionate financial professional, Thomas Fox. Thomas works for a really amazing non-profit that I thought would be appropriate to introduce my readership to. It’s called Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. and they work very hard to spread financial literacy to keep people out of trouble with creditors. Thomas and his colleagues at Cambridge Credit Counseling are all professionally trained and accredited debt and housing counselors. The most informative part of our conversation, aside from Thomas’ personal story, was how passionate he was about protecting his clients from the temptations of working with those all-fixing-all-promising debt counseling scams.  With housing foreclosures and bankruptcy’s still climbing in almost every community all over the country; I thought there would be value in shedding a little spot light on an institution like this that really does have their client’s and patron’s best interests at heart.

We talked about almost anything you could think of talking about in a two our coffee sit-down, even the parts about Thomas being a published poet – I told you there was an interesting personal story. Why I think we hit it off so well was because we share a lot of the same kind of values and educational charges when it comes to spreading financial literacy. We both constantly agreed that there were too many people and organizations out there trying to take advantage of people who are genuinely looking for a fiduciary at an already tough financial crossroad.  This is the mission taken right from the About Us page from Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp.’s website:

“Cambridge Credit Counseling offers financial education and debt management services to individuals throughout the United States. Cambridge’s experienced credit counselors are dedicated to helping people understand and manage their debts by providing personalized attention and a free, comprehensive review of each person's financial situation. Cambridge Credit Counseling believes that, as people become more educated about proper credit and debt management, they can successfully manage their finances in the future.”

They also do a lot in the community on top of all of that. Thomas shared with me the non-profit’s plans to get a personal finance education curriculum started in school systems all over New England. I totally agreed with this!! The idea that teaching school kids about money at as early an age as kindergarten will help them be incredibly savvy consumers after high school – hopefully equipped with the tools to make smart choices that will actually keep them away from services like those offered by Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp.

If you are looking another place, besides the wonderful content posted at Financially Digital like the back yard barbeque advisor, I encourage you to make your way over to http://www.cambridge-credit.org . You won’t be sorry you did. Thomas even hosts his own finance radio show and YouTube web-show. Take a look at the video I’ve imbedded too, it’s Your Money 2.0’s latest episode.

Overall a great meeting over coffee (our friendship actually started on Twitter) and an institution that gets Financially Digital’s Stamp of Approval as they really are champions for their clients. Plus I really do love the idea of putting structured personal finance lessons in public schools – yay financial literacy!! Can’t wait to hopefully hook up with Thomas again and put on some really great stuff out there in the community.

I totally agree with the point that school kids must be taught about the money-matters, because then they wouldn't learn by doing mistakes. Many people fall into Credit Card Deb, just because of ignorance about the correct ways of financial planning, and keeping stick to those plans.:
